VanEck’s MEMECOIN Index outperforms other crypto indices
VanEck, a New York-based asset management giant, has launched a new financial index. Dubbed the MarketVector Meme Coin Index (MEMECOIN), this index tracks the largest meme coins. It aims to cover the six major meme coins, including Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), PEPE, Floki Inu (FLOKI), Dogwifhat (WIF) and BONK.

Comparison of the MEMECOIN index with other crypto indices
The MEMECOIN index has increased by 195% in the last year. It outperformed the S&P Bitcoin Index, which registered a gain of 127.21% in the same period.
The performance contrasts sharply even when respect with other MarketVector indices, such as the MarketVector Centralized Exchanges Index (MVCEX). MVCEX is down 71.43% in the year-to-date (YTD) timeframe. Meanwhile, MEMECOIN grew by 137.96% over the same period.

“Meme coin projects are volatile and can be financially risky. Paradoxically, they appear to carry less regulatory risk than some more serious projects targeted recently, because their team footprint is very small,” Timsit told BeInCrypto.
