Trump in talks to speak at Bitcoin 2024 in July: report
With the 2024 US elections just months away, former President Trump is looking to consolidate a potentially important group: the crypto community.
According to Axios, Trump is in talks with the aim of speaking at the Bitcoin 2024 convention, which is expected to take place from July 25 to 27, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Axios reported this on Monday, citing two sources familiar with the development.
Trump and his growing Bitcoin, crypto-friendly stance
Bitcoin Magazine’s Bitcoin 2024 event is the biggest BTC event of the year and takes place right after the Republican National Convention ends. Notably, it was at the Bitcoin 2020 event in Miami that El Salvador announced its plan to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.
Given that this event could offer Trump the platform to make an important statement about his stance on Bitcoin.
In fact, news of Trump’s plan to speak at this year’s Bitcoin event comes amid increasing perception across the crypto industry that the former president is pro-crypto. The comparison to Biden’s approach, certainly in the months before Trump emerged as a serious supporter of cryptography, had the current administration as “not good” for the industry.
Earlier this month, Trump met with top Bitcoin miners in the US, with his comments following the meeting that all remaining BTC should be mined in the country.
During a recent rally, Trump said, “I will end Joe Biden’s war on encryption. We will ensure that the future of crypto and the future of Bitcoin are made in America.”
Crypto Donations to Trump Campaign
This positive view of crypto, among other promises, endeared Trump to the crypto industry, with network donations to the Republican candidate being one of the results.
However, although the founders of crypto exchange Gemini, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, recently donated $2 million, the exact amount donated in crypto is not yet available.
Current location data show The Trump campaign received about $60,000 in crypto donations on the network before the Winklevosses’ contribution.
Total donations on the network currently hover around $1,749,200, but with contributions made outside the network through exchanges that will be available soon, this number could be higher.
