Solana Beach School District Honors Teachers of the Year
The Solana Beach School District has named Shelby Cleveland, sixth grade teacher at Solana Pacific School, as Certified Employee of the Year and Sheila Loyd, art teaching assistant at Carmel Creek, as Classified Employee of the Year. According to a press release, both employees embody the values and mission of the district through their work and dedication to students and the community.
Cleveland taught in the Solana Beach school district for nine years. According to the release, her mission as an educator is to “ensure that every student, regardless of challenges, has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.”
“Shelby is that unique individual who stands out even among the exemplary because she makes a significant impact and positive difference in the future of students, staff and our community every day,” said Elisa Fregoso, principal of Solana Pacific , in the press release.

Loyd is a veteran of the education field with over 17 years of experience, including eight years at SBSD. Loyd brings a “thoughtful and innovative” approach to arts education, creating powerful learning experiences for all students allowing them to share their unique voices and celebrate their heritage. Beyond the art room, Loyd keeps students safe, whether at the crosswalk or overseeing lunch.
“Sheila is a consistent professional who looks for ways to develop and enrich the artistic and social-emotional needs of our students,” Carmel Creek Principal John Galipault said of Loyd.
SBSD also celebrated the work of the following School Employees of the Year.
