GameStop Solana Meme Coin GME Up 467% Ahead of Roaring Kitty Stream
GameStop stock price plunged on Friday following the early (and rough) release of the video game retailer’s first quarter earnings report. But the unofficial GME meme piece on Solana is still at a high level this week, hitting an all-time high price just hours before an influential trader Roaring kitten (aka Keith Gill) organizes its first livestream in three years.
GME, a GameStop tribute coin launched in January, is up 70% over the last 24 hours at the current price of $0.021, and has now surged 467% on the week amid the GameStop stock market fever. The token is now up over 5,000% since setting an all-time low on April 30.
Overnight, the GME token reached a new all-time high price of nearly $0.032. It is now down 33% since that peak. The $471 million trading volume in the past 24 hours is the highest ever for the token, according to CoinGecko.
GameStop’s own shares are down sharply on Friday, down 25% since markets opened, largely due to the earlier-than-expected release of rough quarterly results. It is currently priced just under $35.
But the biggest story around GameStop on Friday will likely be the return of Roaring Kitty to YouTube during a live stream scheduled for 12 p.m. ET. The influencer, who also goes by the name DeepFuckingValue on Reddit, was the key figure behind the 2021 GameStop stock short squeeze.
In recent weeks he returned to Twitter, then finally Reddit earlier this week, sharing that he owns hundreds of millions of dollars in GME stocks and options. Based on his current holdings, his position would be worth $1 billion if the price of GME hits $65 on Friday.
