Crypto brothers don’t understand how Wikipedia editing works
The Crypto brothers called Wikipedia’s Solana coverage “absolute garbage” and expressed concerns about Web3 is Going Just Great creator Molly White’s role in editing online articles.
Ethereum researcher Emmanuel Awosika took issue with Wikipedia’s coverage of the crypto industry on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday, saying “Solana manlets are probably the hardest hit here.”
“No way I’m touching [Solana] if Wikipedia was my primary source of information (Ethereum, surprisingly, had better coverage). Someone needs to edit this page and spend less time on Twitter ads.
Awosika also discussed White’s potential involvement in editing crypto-related articles for Wikipedia and his influence on Wikipedia’s decision to dismiss cryptocurrency donations. “Do non-profit organizations like Wikimedia also have a COI policy? » he asked.
According to his Wikipedia biography, White specializes publishing articles on political extremism and manosphere groups and does not focus on cryptography. White recently contributed to a Wikipedia entry on the American deathcore band Left to Suffer and the Titan submersible incident in 2023.
Awosika then added: “People have complained about Wikipedia’s coverage of the crypto industry, but I never understood the problem until someone made a ‘Wikipedia is fine’ joke making reference to Molly’s potential involvement.
Molly’s job denouncing Awosika’s claims.
In his defense, White note that his “potential involvement” in editing Solana’s Wikipedia page amounted to only a grammatical modification — fixed the wrong capitalization of “non-fungible token”.
She also refuted Awosika’s claim that her Wikipedia edits were “news”, noting that she describes herself as a “Wikipedian” (a volunteer separate from the Wikimedia Foundation which helps edit the pages) in his biography.
Awosika tried to claim that Wikipedia has a “clearly anti-crypto stance,” emphasizing its refusal to accept crypto donations And one alleged history of not reporting on crypto-related topics.
White note“The Wikimedia Foundation doesn’t accept livestock donations either, but we are very good at writing articles about cows.”

Awosika also shared images from Wikipedia’s Solana page that detail lawsuits, outages, and hacks related to the platform and its suffering due to FTX. He request White: “Surely there is more to a protocol like Solana than just lawsuits, token price drops and outages?
White replied“I think most crypto projects (even big ones like Solana) are very limited to industry publications, which generally do not pass the bar of reliable sources on Wikipedia.”
She added“Wikipedia articles are based on what reliable secondary sources have to say about a topic, not what a topic has to say about itself.”
